This sale of household goods and furnishings was the second in successive years at Rycote. An earlier sale had been held in July 1779 after one Richard Way had secured an agreement to purchase the goods in settlement of debts owed to him by the 4th Earl of Abingdon. The 1780 sale, described in this catalogue, was also brought about by an execution levied by the Sheriff. Included in this sale (fols. 73v-75v) were three hundred and fifty books and two manuscripts.
