Description of coats of arms in the windows of Rycote Chapel

Author
Anthony Wood
Date
Mainly 1668-1681
Medium
Manuscript

The windows of Rycote Chapel had been originally decorated with the coats of arms of its owners and benefactors. This description of the armorial bearings in the Chapel is from a volume of heraldic, genealogical and topographical notes on Oxfordshire churches compiled by the antiquary Anthony Wood, mainly 1668-1681. It is possible that Wood's description was compiled from drawings made by the herald Richard Lee during his Oxfordshire visitation of 1574. Lee's manuscript was acquired by Wood and forms part of his manuscript collection at the Bodleian.
