Lord North in the Suds

Willoughby Bertie, 4th Earl of Abingdon
Musical score

This musical score was derived from a cartoon attacking the taxation policies of the administration led by Frederick, Lord North. The cartoon shown here is a different version from that originally published by T. Evans in March 1782. Lord North is seen in the tub in the centre of the cartoon. The composer is not identified. This copy is from a volume labelled "music composed by the Earl of Abingdon." Whether Abingdon was the composer or collector of this piece, it certainly reflects his political views. The Earl was a persistent and vehement critic of Lord North.
