Portrait of Charles I


This portrait of Charles I is on the Codex Authenticus of the Laudian Codes of the University of Oxford, 1636. Charles visited Rycote in 1625 after the first Parliament of his reign was forced to reconvene in Oxford on 1 August due to an outbreak of the plague in London. The King and his court were entertained at Rycote on 30 and 31 July (CSP Dom. 1625-6, pp. 77-8).
