Stained glass portrait said to be of Edward Wray

Author
Date
17th century
Medium
Portrait

A seventeenth-century stained glass portrait said to be of Edward Wray (d. 1658) (Bell, Francis Norris, p. 18). This stained glass panel is one of a set of four which were formerly in the windows of Wytham Abbey, Oxfordshire (historically in Berkshire). The panels were installed in the south window of Arts End, Duke Humfrey's Library at the Bodleian in 1988. If the identification of Edward Wray is correct, it could be speculated that the lady seen praying in the bottom right of the panel may represent Wray's wife Elizabeth, suo jure Baroness Norris.
