The symposium was held in the Auditorium of St John's College, Oxford, on 31 October 2012. The day was split into two parts: the morning session explored the architecture and history of the Tudor mansion, and the afternoon session examined the lives of three of Rycote's owners.

Dr McCulloch is a music historian and the 'Proprietor' of Cafe Mozart. At the symposium, Dr McCulloch's paper was accompanied with performances of the 4th Earl of Abingdon's music by members of Cafe Mozart: Rogers Covey-Crump, tenor; Jenny Thomas & Eva Caballero, flutes; Ian Gammie, bass viol/guitar.
